My husband and I are going to be reading and discussing this book while on our road trip. If anyone wants to read along with us, and join in the discussion, we would love it! The book is readily available on Amazon.
Today, we read and discussed Chapter 1 (I read it out loud while Jim drove). Itโs life changing ideas. The ideas are so simple, yet so difficult to implement at the same time. The key idea is that we are in a spiritual battle, and our mind is the battlefield. We often think that we โare the way we areโ and that our behaviors, personality, and emotions just happen. However, we CAN control our thoughts. We donโt have to just think everything that comes to our minds. In fact, the Bible tells us to โtake every thought captive into the obedience of Christโ -2 Corinthians 10:5. Our thoughts lead to actions and behaviors. I feel Iโm an overall positive person, but in honest reflection, I do often jump to worst-case scenarios easily and panic. I need to learn to take those anxious thoughts captive.
The devil and his evil spirits are real. They are great at telling us lies and creating strongholds of negative thoughts about ourselves and others. Jesus calls Satan the โfather of liesโ. By knowing Godโs Word, we can fight the devil and end those negative strongholds in our lives. We can think the way God wants us to think. Proverbs 23:7 says, โAs a man thinks in his heart, so does he becomeโ.
The action steps we plan to take from Chapter 1:
1. We need to study Godโs word more, so we know His character and His promises for us, and we wonโt believe the devilโs lies.
2. We are going to pay careful attention to our thoughts. We are going to be cognizant of what we are thinking, and how our thoughts need to change.
I really value this time on the road to do this. Jim and I had a great discussion, and Iโm looking forward to continuing this. Please share your thoughts in the comments. Have you read this book? Do you plan to read it? Also, share your prayer requests. We will see you back for chapter 2!
