We spent day 11 exploring Yellowstone from the west entrance. I can’t even begin to explain how beautiful this park is! We focused on the Old Faithful area and the Grand Prismatic Spring area, but we stopped off at all of the smaller sites in between. We were able to see a Mom and baby elk. It was an amazing day!

Old Faithful
This famous geyser erupts about every 90 minutes. The National Park Service posts the next predicted time on their website regularly with +\- 10 minutes. The eruption lasts 1.5-5 minutes. There is plenty of parking and seating to watch the eruption. There are also gift shops, restaurants, and a visitor center there.

Grand Prismatic Springs
There are several springs and geysers to see in this area. There is a boardwalk path to follow. This area did NOT have a lot of parking, and traffic was stopped dead trying to get into the parking lot. We had to park down the road and walk a long way to get there. It was definitely worth the stop with scenery that made you feel like you were on another planet. When the geysers erupt, you get sprayed with hot steam which was immediately followed by a blast of cool air. This sensation was so strange!

In between and on the way

One piece of advice: get groceries before arriving in West Yellowstone. My Dad would call in a “Tourist Trap”. It’s a very lively town with tons of souvenir shops, hotels, and restaurants. There are only 2 grocery stores. They’re very small and very overpriced. 😝
Yellowstone is truly a glimpse of heaven.
We can’t even begin to imagine how beautiful heaven will be. Our human minds can’t even comprehend it, but I think today, we saw a shadow of the beauty of heaven. Looking at the scenery, I don’t know how anyone could not believe that God exists. Even with all of our human technology and advancements, we can’t begin to come close to the awe and wonder of God’s creation.
