A big RV trip, but the little things are most important

, , , ,

We did 46 days on the road in our camper. We drove over 10,000 miles and went from Michigan to the west and back again. Reflecting on the trip now, there were so many SMALL things that made this BIG trip special. My husband and I discussed our most memorable experiences on the trip, and it was VERY hard to narrow it down, but here’s what we came up with (not in any particular order):

  1. Star gazing at Zion’s White Bison RV Park in Utah

This RV park was SO quiet, and I’ve never seen more stars in the sky than we did there. There was also beautiful scenery all around the campground and in Zion National Park.

2. Feeding wild donkeys at Custer State Park, South Dakota

The amount of wild donkeys, the scenery, the feeding of them, the affection they gave us— all of these made this experience a highlight for me!

3. The rodeo in Cody, Wyoming

Buying cowboy hats at a thrift store, riding a bull, and watching our very first rodeo was definitely a highlight of the trip.

4. Thousand Waves Spa in Santa Fe, New Mexico

WOW! From saunas, to hot springs, to hot tea, to kimonos and foot soaks- this Japanese Spa did NOT disappoint!

5. New Orlean’s Double Decker Bus Tour

Hearing the history and stories of New Orleans from the top of the Double Decker bus was definitely memorable. We really enjoyed learning about the city- and eating beignets!

6. Watching a sheep dog herd sheep AND going into one of Joanna Gaines’ actual remodels in Waco, Texas

I woke up to watch a sheep dog herding the sheep right by our camper. It was beautiful! Then, we got to actually go into one of Joanna Gaines’ renovated houses AND meet Jimmy Don – definitely a highlight!

7. Taking the dogs to White Sands In Alamogordo, New Mexico

We didn’t get pictures of the dogs here because we were FaceTiming our kids to show them, but our dogs LOVED climbing and running around White Sands National Park. It was one of the last things our dog Bear was able to do before we tragically lost him. We will forever have this special memory of him in this utterly gorgeous place.

8. Boondocking in the Badlands, South Dakota

This was a FREE stay with million dollar views. Definitely a highlight due to its peacefulness and stunning views. We were scared to try Boondocking, but it was so worth it!

9. Bryce Canyon Driving Tour

There was just something special about the colors and views in this park. It was so different than the other National Parks. We listened to the Action Tour Guide App as we drove through and also got out at all the stops to explore. This park is just amazing!

10. Watching movies at night in the air conditioning after a long day of sightseeing

We truly enjoyed relaxing in the camper with our feet up in our lazy boy chairs at the end of a long day!!

It’s really hard to choose just a few things with 46 days of traveling. We met up with family for a while, and I’m not including that only because we’re sharing what others would enjoy on their trips. We cherished our family time though and definitely made the trip even better!!❤️❤️

If you ever do an extended road trip, you will find that there are many little things that become very special. They didn’t make “the list”, but the little things like trying regional foods (prickly pear smoothies, huckleberry jam, and hatch chiles), seeing a military plane fly over…

Quirky gift shops…

Campfires…

Pools…

All of these things made our epic road trip a once in a lifetime adventure that we will NEVER forget. We are so very glad we took this trip, and we highly recommend it for anyone who has been considering it. Be prepared to look for the little things that you will remember most!😁
