Day 43 of our roadtrip- a trip to the ER…Never a dull moment🤪

, , , ,

Very late on Day 42 into very early of Day 43, I ended up in the ER. Like I said in many earlier posts- real life still happens on the road.

I have always had issues with my tongue itching after eating walnuts, so I’ve always avoided them. Sometimes, raw almonds would do the same. We had a piece of key lime pie made at Publix Supermarket about 9:30 pm. There were thinly sliced almonds sprinkled around the very edge. Around 10:00 my tongue got itchy…but then more than itchy- it started to swell. It had never swollen before. We ran to CVS and got Benadryl. It was supposed to work in 15-30 minutes, so I set my alarm for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, it was still swollen, so I took ibuprofen to see if that would help the swelling. After 15 more minutes, it was still swelling, so we decided I better get medical treatment.

Thankfully, the ER was only 5 minutes from our campground. When I told them that I was having an allergic reaction, they rushed me back. By this time, my tongue was about 4 times its normal size, which was making it difficult to swallow. As soon as the nurse saw it, they started an IV and the doctor came right in. They gave me 3 different medicines in my IV, and a shot of epinephrine. After the shot, they had to monitor me for at least an hour. After a little over an hour, my tongue was barely swollen anymore, so they sent me on my way along with a prescription for prednisone. They suggested I never eat any type of nuts again!😆

My vacation adventure🤦‍♀️

It was late by the time we got home, but all that Benadryl made me sleep like a baby.

The next morning was officially Day 43. Thankfully, my tongue wasn’t swollen at all when I woke up. We packed up and got out of the park by 11 am. We drove ALL day towards “home”. During the drive, we made another offer on a house! We should hear something tomorrow. 🙏

After driving all day and losing an hour crossing time zones, we landed in Athens, Tennessee at 9:30 pm. The park is just a small, stop-off type park with limited facilities. In fact, it’s called the Over-Niter RV Park. It does have full hook-up, and was only $47.00.

Dinner was late after getting the camper set up. We cleaned up leftovers – what was left of them since our child lock on the fridge broke, and we had some spills. I had just shown them to our Aunt Yvette too- (Aunt Yvette- don’t bother getting them…🤪). Afterwards, we introduced my sister-in-law to the series, “Supernatural”, which is one of our favorites.

On Day 44, we plan to head to the Gatlinburg area and stay for 2 nights before getting back to Michigan!! We miss everyone SO much!❤️❤️
