1st Day- A Success!๐Ÿ˜

1,169 miles to Mount Rushmore

Iโ€™m SO proud of myself! I drove! I was so scared to pull this 39 foot beast behind this giant truck, but I did it! It wasnโ€™t that bad at all. (I did pray for an army of angels to help meโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜)

We did great eating healthy in the road. We stopped at Kroger and bought bread, lunch meat, and veggie chips. Thatโ€™s all we ate until we stopped at 8:20 pm in Geneseo, Illinois. We had gotten a late start after an Ohio/ Michigan DMV license plate fiasco on the new camper (long storyโ€ฆ), so we didnโ€™t even leave Michigan until 2 pm. We drove for just over 6 hours. We were able to set up the campsite in just under 20 minutes, with 20 minutes left to find a grocery store for dinner. We ran into a grocery store at 8:55 that closed at 9 pm, and grabbed pork chops. Back at the site, I blackened the pork chops, made brown rice, and baked potatoes for a delicious, healthy dinner.

We stayed at the Geneseo Campground in Geneseo, Illinois. I canโ€™t say much about it because we only ate, slept, and left in the morning. It looks nice, and we had no issues. The pull through sites were very close together, so that was a negative. We paid $58 for a full hook up, 50 amp, pull through. We booked online, which was super easy, and they texted us our site #, so we didnโ€™t even have to check in at the office.

We are now back on the road and in Iowa. We stopped at the โ€œWorldโ€™s Largest Truck Stopโ€ off I-80, and they had an amazing dog park. Our dogs are living their best lives in this trip!

We donโ€™t know how far we will get today, or where we will stay. We are really intrigued about staying at a Cracker Barrel, but honestly, we are a little afraid to sleep in a parking lot? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ To be continuedโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜

You guys should look into Harvest Host, its a group of places like farms, wineries, breweries, and more with no camping fees and all they ask is you patronize their establishment. Check it out Harvest Host. com.
